The Original tag, and why 81% matters

The biggest category on the whole site appears in the English menu as original. No label, no explanation, just the word.
It is the single most useful thing in the classification system, and it is invisible.

What it marks
The Japanese is オリジナル動画 — “original video”. It means the title was shot and produced in-house rather than licensed from another studio.
5,107 of 6,274 titles carry it. That is 81%.
Why that number decides something
Adult subscription sites fall into two shapes, and the difference is invisible from the outside.
A reseller licenses material other people made. Its catalogue overlaps with every other reseller licensing from the same sources. Subscribing to two of them gets you a lot of the same footage twice.
A studio shoots its own. Its catalogue is not available elsewhere.
At 81% in-house, this is a studio that also carries some licensed material — not a shop with a house brand. Practically, that means the overlap with anything else you subscribe to is small.
It also explains the runtimes. The median title runs 61 minutes and that has barely moved in twenty years. That kind of consistency comes from one production operation with a house format, not from a licensing pipeline.

In-house productions average 4.60. Everything else averages 4.38.
Small. Consistent. Worth exactly as much as a small consistent gap is worth — which is to say, it is a tiebreaker, not a rule.
We are cautious about this figure for a specific reason: the ratings on this site do not separate much. 97.5% of the catalogue sits at four stars or higher. When almost everything is rated highly, a 0.22 gap is one of the few signals the ratings still carry.
How the mix changed
The in-house share is not flat across the catalogue’s 25 years. For 2021 through 2024, it is effectively everything.
So the practical version: anything recent is in-house. If you start with new releases, you are already inside the 81% without filtering for it.
That is the same advice we give for a different reason — older titles were shot on older equipment and look it — and it is convenient that both point the same way.
The Task of New Employee Vol.33How to actually use it
You will not often need to filter by this, because most of the catalogue is already in it.
Where it matters is the other direction. If you are comparing this against another subscription, this is the number to ask the other one for. A site that cannot tell you what share of its catalogue it produced is telling you something.
And if a title feels stylistically off — different pacing, different look — checking whether it carries this category usually explains it. That is the 19%.
