Nampa meaning: the pickup genre in JAV
Nampa (ナンパ) is the Japanese word for approaching a stranger in public to start something, usually romantic or sexual. On Caribbeancom it is also the name of a genre: titles built around that approach, not around a single performer. If a tag or a search result says “Pickup,” that is the English name for the same thing.

The short answer
Nampa means “pick up” or “hit on.” As a JAV category, it covers scenes framed as a street approach that leads to sex: someone is stopped in public, agrees to go along with the person who approached her, and the scene follows from there. The English navigation calls this tag Pickup. Caribbeancom has tagged 58 titles this way, starting from its earliest years, and it is still an active tag today.
Nampa as a genre
Nampa belongs to a much older line of work than Caribbeancom. Pickup-style productions were a staple of Japanese adult video long before uncensored streaming existed, usually shot with a handheld camera and a premise: a crew approaches women on the street, in a shop, outside a station, and asks if they want to appear in a video. What happens next is presented as following from that approach, rather than from a script built around a named lead performer.
That setup is the reason nampa sits apart from most of the catalogue. A typical Caribbeancom title is built around a credited performer, and her name is the main thing a returning viewer searches for. A nampa title is built around the premise instead. The performer matters less than the situation: who gets approached, where, and what she agrees to. Several of the people who appear in Pickup-tagged titles only show up once in the whole catalogue, which fits a format that is cast scene by scene rather than built around a recurring face.
The format also tends to run looser than a studio-shot scene: public or semi-public settings, a conversational opening before anything else happens, and dialogue that plays up spontaneity. None of that is scripted reality — it is a produced video with a professional cast and crew, dressed as a chance encounter. Reading it as a genre convention, not a documentary claim, is the useful way to watch it.
The word itself is wider than the genre. Outside adult video, nampa is an ordinary verb Japanese speakers use for any unsolicited approach — a man striking up a conversation with a stranger at a bar counts as nampa, with nothing sexual implied by the word on its own. Adult video narrowed it to a specific premise: the approach is the opening scene, and whatever follows is framed as the direct result of it. That is also why Pickup and Amateur are separate tags here rather than two names for the same thing. Amateur, as the site uses it, marks performers presented as non-professional rather than describing how a scene begins. Less than half of the titles tagged Pickup also carry the Amateur tag, which means the two labels are tracking different things: one is about the premise, the other about who is cast.

Pickup is one of the site’s older tags. Its oldest listed title dates to January 2005, a few years into the site’s run, and the tag has kept being used on and off since — its most recent entry is from November 2025. It is not one of the site’s biggest categories (Original and Beautiful Breasts each run into the thousands), but it has stayed in use for twenty years rather than being retired.
That makes it different from the site’s other concept-built format. Titles built around a premise rather than a performer are also labelled with what we gloss as Concept Series (kikakumono) when the premise is a studio idea — a workplace setup, a themed shoot, a recurring format. That tag stopped being applied in 2014. Pickup never stopped. The difference is the premise itself: a kikakumono title is built around whatever concept the studio invents that month, while a nampa title is built around the same premise every time — someone gets approached in public — which does not go out of date the way a one-off concept does.
Pickup titles average 4.3 stars on the site’s own 5-star rating scale across the whole run, a little below the catalogue-wide average of roughly 4.6. It is not a tag that ranks itself above the rest of the site; it is a tag defined by its premise, not by standing out on ratings. Most entries carry other tags alongside Pickup — creampie, POV and amateur-adjacent labels turn up often — because the approach is the setup, not the whole description of what happens in the scene.
The release pattern has a clear shape to it. The tag was used heavily in Caribbeancom’s first decade, then tailed off:

That is a different pattern from kikakumono’s hard stop in 2014. Pickup slowed down and went quiet for a couple of years, then kept getting occasional new entries instead of disappearing outright. If a search turns up a Pickup title from 2026 or later, it fits a tag that is still technically open, even if it is no longer a regular part of the release schedule.
